[This Document is the Property of His Britannic Majesty's Government]

CONFIDENTIAL.

No. 1.

Sir Edward Grey to Sir J. Jordan.

[April 4.]

(No. 65.) (Telegraphic.)

Foreign Office, April 4, 1908.

TRÂDE-MARKS Convention with Japan. Your despatch No. 113 of the 4th ultimo.

I have requested Sir C. MacDonald to send you and Sir A. Hosie direct draft of Convention in amended form, and I should be glad to have your observations by telegraph.

The objections raised by Sir A. Hosie to Convention in its present form do not seem fully to apply.

Desired amendment of Japanese law prior to signature of the Convention is hardly to be expected.

Please repeat to Sir C. MacDonald.
